CE2002 Intro to Christian Ethics (3 units, Core)
History of Ecumenical Social
Thought: This course invites students to critically examine social thought from within the
ecumenical movement. It will focus on the social witness of the World Council of Churches
from 1948 to the present. The course is designed to explore foundational ecumenical
concepts, historical periods and major themes emerging from the life and work of WCC.
Students will learn by engaging in research around a specific social issue and by
participating in reading, lectures, and dialogue as together we consider the WCC's
contribution and response to significant historical world events. This course seeks to
provide the student with a foundational survey of the field of Christian ethics, with concern
for its application to daily pastoral practice. |

FT3210 - Disciples History and Polity (3 units, Elective)
This course explores the
origins and development of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a distinctive North
American denomination. Particular attention is given to the ways in which its life and
thought have been shaped in relation to changing social and political contexts, and to the
persons who have led in that creativity and adaptation. Students are expected to engage
historical sources, including primary ones, to assess the information provided by them to
and to explore what contemporary Disciples may learn from them.

provides for an understanding and appreciation of the practice of worship and the
administration of the sacraments in the Reformed Tradition. Worship and the sacraments
are examined from an historical and theological perspective, and in contemporary
settings. The Directory for Worship, the Book of Confession, and the Book of Common
Worship will be studied in order to discover strengths and weaknesses in our tradition and
how we can be faithful to our tradition while seeking to be relevant in our contemporary
context. |
