Coaching for Leadership Staff



Carolyn Foster, M.A.
Carolyn is a professional coach in private practice, where she works with business executives, entrepreneurs and clergy to increase their effectiveness and leadership skills.  Trained as a family therapist, she wrote the 1993 national bestseller, THE FAMILY PATTERNS WORKBOOK and appeared on Oprah.  For the last ten years, she has been on the faculty of School of Applied Theology, a sabbatical program for religious professionals.  She teaches leadership development at Stanford Continuing Studies and coaches at Google.  Mother of two grown daughters and grandmother of four, she lives in Alameda and loves practicing Pilates and collecting books.

John Landgraf, Ph.D.
John is an ordained minister, a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist and a Diplomate of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.  He brings a wealth of professional experience to the task of coaching clergy as a former pastor, hospital chaplain, pastoral counselor, executive director and seminary president.  John has made a career of meeting the psychological, career and professional needs of ministers and their families.
In more recent years, John teaches pastoral care and counseling at Fuller Seminary in Northern California, consults with the Center for Ministry in Oakland, and maintains a psychotherapy practice.  In his free time, he and his spouse, Laura, enjoy traveling and singing together.

Gayle Madison, M.Div.
Gayle is an ordained minister, who after graduating from Pacific School of Religion in 1980, has served as a chaplain, pastoral counselor and local church pastor throughout the North Bay.  In more recent years, she has worked for several years as a denominational executive, assisting ministers and congregations with personal and systematic issues.  She holds the rank of Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and received training as a spiritual director at the Shalem Institute in Washington, D.C.  She is candidate in the Doctor of Ministry program at SFTS.  In recent years, she has become a resident expert in Internal Family Systems Therapy.  In addition to her work as a pastoral counselor and coach, Gayle teaches and supervises in the Center’s D. Min. program.  In her free time, she enjoys open water swimming, hiking, travel and art with her husband, Ed.

R. Scott Sullender, Ph.D.
Scott has over 35 years of professional experience as a psychologist, pastor and organizational consultant. For much of his career, he has served as the executive director of various non-profit organizations. On another occasions, he has served as an consultant/coach to both small and very larger social service agencies, often around conflict management, strategic planning and quality assurance issues. He has been active in United Way work and in the Samaritan Counseling network where he has learned a great deal about organizational leadership skills. Further, his clinical practice has made specialty out of counseling clergy and assessing the psychological health of clergy candidates. “Coaching for Leadership” is a perfect outlet for his professional skills and wisdom.

Becky Wright, M.S.
Becky has been a family therapist for 18 years and the clinical supervisor of a community counseling and addiction recovery center. She has supervised staff and interns, and led psycho-educational groups for men, women, and teens. She has used coaching to support and empower parents for many years. An active member of the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, Becky is a lay staff member working as a spiritual journey group and retreat leader. She is currently organizing and implementing a program for seminarians, who are in the discernment process with her congregation. She loves hiking and group travel for the purpose of enriching her church community, understanding the roots of her faith and participating in interfaith dialogue. She is the mother of three grown children, grandmother of two and lives in Berkeley with her husband.
