For over 70 years, the SFTS Auxiliary has been a partner in seminary education by providing communal, personal, and financial support for SFTS students and their families and contributing to student support through membership dues.
There are several annual events hosted by the Auxiliary, including the annual Horizons Bible Study in the fall and the Seminary for a Day event in the spring. In December, the Auxiliary hosts the annual Advent Celebration for the students' children and distributes gifts provided by their members in local churches and Presbyterian Women's groups. These events help anchor the primary commitment of the Auxiliary: to continually discover new ways in which members can personally, spiritually, communally and financially be of aid to the students and families of SFTS.
The Auxiliary also oversees the operations of the campus Seek and Find and ensures donations so it remains filled with any gently used clothing. Regretfully, we are unable to accept used computer/electronic equipment.
If you would like to join the SFTS Auxiliary, attend an Auxiliary event or if you would like more information please contact Sarah Campbell, Auxiliary Liaison at SFTS at (800) 477-8820 ext 830 or send an e-mail message to scampbell@sfts.edu.
Our Most Recent Past Event:
2007 Saint Nicholas Advent Party
On Saturday, December 8th we had our annual Advent Party for the Seminary children. About two weeks before Thanksgiving invitations were sent to all student, faculty and staff families with children. The invitation had a picture of St. Nicholas with children on the front. Inside the invitation was written in English and also Korean. We entertained 39 children and 28 adults. As the children arrived we had Christmas music playing. We began by having three tables of different crafts for the children, thanks to Debra Scott. These tables were supervised by the three youth on the committee, Elizabeth Copperthwaite, Natalie Taylor and Taylor Crouch. St. Nicholas, aka Brad Van Sant, was there in his very regal outfit. He looked great! He told the story of St. Nicholas, Sarah Yang translated the story to Korean. As the story was being told, images from the St. Nicholas book were shown on a screen. The children listened intently to every word.
Lunch was pizza, carrots and dip and juice boxes. The tables were very colorful with red table cloths, napkins with a picture of St. Nicholas, red and green plates. Each place at the table had a place mat for coloring. As the children left they were presented with their gifts from St. Nicholas. The gift was a red sack adorned with a St. Nicholas picture. In the sack there was a bag of gold chocolate coins, $20.00 gift card for Target and a Christmas cookie. They were also given a book about the story of St. Nicholas and a St. Nicholas book mark.
During the party Talitha Phillips roamed the room with her guitar singing Christmas songs with the children. The student lounge in Scott Hall looked great with lights on the garlands, Christmas tree and the large white star. It was a very successful party and the children and parents had a great time. The parents really appreciated the event. We received many thanks.
The Chair of this event was Cathy White, however, the party could not have happened with out a great committee. Many thanks go to Debra and John Scott, Nancy and Brad Van Sant, Sarah Yang, Margaret Veneman, Libby Davis, Betty Stott, Taylor Crouch, Natalie Taylor, Elizabeth Copperthwaite, Jan Butin, Suzanne Crouch, Jillian Robinson, Rosemary Smith, Talitha Phillips, Pat Jones and of course, Sarah Campbell, for all of her help and support. They were a great committee and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
We are looking forward to next year’s Advent Party!
