Field Education - PasadenaInternship and Integrative Studies M.Div. students are first introduced to Field Education and Integrative Studies through the Exploration In Ministry (EIM) course taught either by Dr. Elizabeth Nordquist or Dr. So Young Park (assisted by local adjunct faculty). This first year course helps new students begin to address the questions: "What is Ministry?" and "What does it mean to be called and to what am I called?" This course begins with an overnight retreat for entering M.Div students. Students continue to explore these questions throughout the Integrative Studies program. This program includes an internship, and he Racial/Ethnic requirement, and an Internship Integrative Seminar. Staff assists students to consult with their denominations and work with their ordaining bodies regarding these requirements. All students are required to meet with Dr. Nordquist, and international students must meet as well with Dr. Kyle Matsumoto Burch the semester prior to beginning an internship. SFTS endeavors to help all students conform to their denomination's care requirements as they prepare for ministry. Dr. Nordquist provides information about the process in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and can direct you to others who will guide you through your own denominational process. You are strongly urged to begin the care process as soon as possible if you have not done so before entering seminary, in order to fulfill seminary and denominational requirements in a timely way. An internship must have the approval of the governing body of the student's denomination. |
