SFTS Library - San Anselmo

The library in Geneva Hall on the San Anselmo campus is a branch of the Graduate Theological Union library, which serves all the member seminaries of institutes of the GTU. The GTU library also provides theological materials for borrowers from the University of California, Berkeley.

Housing approximately 100,000 volumes, the San Anselmo branch library provides materials and information to students taking courses on the San Anselmo campus; it also is an important resource for the GTU community. The branch library is connected electronically to the GTU Library through an online public access catalog and circulation system known by its acronym GRACE. The branch library also has publicly accessible computers for internet access to GRACE and subscription databases.

The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library in Berkeley is the main GTU library. The holdings for the entire GTU system, including the branch library in San Anselmo, can be searched through GRACE, with supplemental information in the GTU library card catalog. This theological collection is among the largest in the United States and is distinguished as being ecumenically one of the most diversified. Acquisitions are coordinated with the UC Berkeley and Stanford libraries, with reciprocal borrowing privileges for faculty and students of all three institutions.

GTU library privileges are available for a fee to SFTS graduates and Bay Area residents. The GTU main and branch libraries do not provide direct loan by mail. Individuals who live outside the Bay Area may use a local library to borrow through interlibrary loan. All requests for SFTS library materials should be addressed to the Interlibrary Loan Department of the Flora Lamson Hewlett Library.
