Biographical Information

Kitty Lum is a member of First Presbyterian Church, San Anselmo, CA. She received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA. Before Kitty decided to change careers and enter ministry, she worked as an environmental engineer. At San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS), Kitty really enjoyed her studies and especially theology, biblical studies/languages, preaching, and Christian education. While at SFTS Kitty taught children’s Sunday School at Abiding Way Church for one year. Kitty also worked as a Chaplain’s Assistant at SFTS for one year, gaining much experience in designing worship services, working with many preachers and students, providing pastoral care to the seminary community, and doing liturgical art for the décor of two chapels. She also sang in the seminary choir for most of her years at SFTS. Kitty is completing her academic year internship at Covenant Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, CA, and she has been fully immersed into all areas of ministry at this church. She has really enjoyed gaining experience in preaching, preparing worship services, working with the Session and all ministry teams, co-teaching an adult ed Lenten series on evangelism for the mainline Church, leading People’s Prayers, doing children’s sermons, decorating the sanctuary, helping develop the church’s new website, assisting with pastoral care, and singing in the choir. Kitty made the suggestion to the supervising pastor to teach the evangelism class and did the initial preparation; the class has generated much new energy in the congregation.

Kitty came from a non-denominational church and after a two-year period of discernment while at SFTS, she decided to become Presbyterian. She now really appreciates the Reformed perspective of the Christian faith. So she became an Inquirer in August 2007 and is planning to be moved to Candidate in September 2008. Kitty plans to take her ordination exams in August 2008 and complete her one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in May 2009. She will available to work in ministry positions that do not require ordination in September 2008. Kitty hopes to be available for an ordained call in September 2009.

Kitty is especially interested in preaching, worship, and Christian education. She is an outgoing person who enjoys working with people of all ages, as well as with children and youth.
